VARISE CONNER ALBUM NOW AVAILABLE

Remember a little over a year ago when we asked for your help with the UL Lafayette Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore? We thought you would like to know that your generous contributions helped the Archives not only with their ongoing preservation efforts; your support also helped the Archives win a grant from the Grammy Foundation to
support their efforts to transfer their collections to digital media while also maintaining the original analog recordings.

At the same time, you also helped the Archives begin to do something they have long wanted to do: make the recordings in their collections more widely available. Just last month they released their first CD, “Louisiana Folk Masters: Varise Conner.” The disc features 72 minutes of songs and stories from a man long called “the greatest unrecorded Cajun musician." The Mamou Playboys' own David Greely spent some long hours as associate producer, and the efforts of the disc's production team have been described as "nothing short of stunning."

The CD package features a 28-page illustrated booklet featuring liner notes by Michael Doucet, David Greely, Carl Brasseaux and Barry Jean Ancelet. The disc is a one-of-a-kind 39-track collection of waltzes, two-steps, blues, a mazurka, a polka, reminiscences and, of course, the "Lake Arthur Stomp" as performed by its originator in his own home. “Louisiana Folk Masters: Varise Conner” is available at www.LouisianaCrossroads.org for just $15 plus $2.50 shipping and handling in the U.S. And if you get your hands on one and turn to the last page of the booklet, you’ll find the fans of the Mamou Playboys credited as project funders. In fact, the disc’s producers asked us if they could please use this forum to specially thank all of you for your generosity and encouragement.
